The allure of ASMR has grown exponentially over the past five years with the help of TikTok and popular YouTube videos. In fact, the top five ASMR-dedicated YouTube channels have subscribers ranging from 2.21 million to 9.39 million.

From mukbang eating sounds to deep whispers, the fascinating phenomenon of ASMR has captured the ears of many.

If you are not familiar with the term, ASMR stands for autonomous sensory meridian response; it describes a “tingly feeling that travels from the head downward that some experience in response to certain sounds, feelings, or descriptions. These can include soft whispering, crinkling paper, or a gentle touch” according to the Merriam-Webster dictionary.

It is said that these sensations can spread across the skull, down the neck, and through the spine and limbs, for some.

If that sounds good, you’ll love the WEIRD SENSATION FEELS GOOD: The World of ASMR exhibition at The Design Museum.

Curated in collaboration with ArkDes, the Swedish Centre for Architecture and Design, this experience will allow you to step inside an “acoustically tuned environment” in the real world and discover how our complex world is navigated using existing and new tools.
