Balletcore is a recent trend that has gained prominence in fashion, aesthetics, and lifestyle circles.

Vivienne Westwood stylishly curated ballet-inspired outfits to be worn by dancers during the intermission for the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra’s New Year’s concert in 2014.

More recently, a ballet show inspired by Coco Chanel premiered in March 2023 in Hong Kong.
It was a joint collaboration between the Hong Kong Ballet, Atlanta Ballet and Queensland Ballet celebrating the life and legacy of the fashion icon.
High-end fashion brand, Miu Miu has a strong connection with balletcore too.
In 2022, their Autumn/Winter fashion show showcased models wearing satin ballet flat shoes with thick leg warmers.
The shoes had straps wrapped around the ankle, drawing a direct parallel to pointe shoes worn by ballet dancers.

The ballerina-inspired footwear for that show was reminiscent of their 2016 collection, which featured ballet shoes with tartan ankle wraps.
Additionally, their clothing lines have featured tulle skirts, chiffon dresses and body-hugging tops with delicate details like bows and ribbons.

Balletcore fashion has made its mark not only on the runway or down our Instagram feeds but also in popular culture.
From music videos to TV shows, its influence can be seen across different forms of media.
In her 2021 “Brutal” music video, Olivia Rodrigo donned a Roberto Cavalli corset mini dress draped in flowy chiffon and a beaded fringe (the exact dress that Britney Spears wore at the 2003 American Music Awards) and blue-grey satin ballet shoes.
The supporting dancers are dressed in full ballet attire, tutus and all.
